Pluscarden Abbey Catalogue of books printed before 1801 ISBN 0 900897 03 1
The small collection of old books listed in this catalogue is probably far more extensive than the entire Pluscarden Library of pre-1560 days. A medieval monastery did not normally have a special room set aside as a library. The liturgical books were kept in a strong room adjoining the church and books for the use of the monks in the presses in the cloisters or day room. Only one of Pluscarden's books from medieval times has survived a black letter copy of the Vulgate now held in the National Library in Edinburgh.
