St Andrews in 1793 and 1838:the first and second statistical accounts ISBN 0 900897 07 4
In 1793 the minister of St Andrews wrote a general description of the state of the parish, as a contribution to Sir John Sinclair's great Statistical Account of Scotland. It gives a complete picture of life in St Andrews at that time and is an invaluable resource to all who are interested in the town's history. In 1838 another description was written for the New Statistical Account. This volume reprints both of these accounts, with a new introduction by RG Cant and some pictures from nineteenth-century St Andrews guide books.
