Callum has been an instrumental part of Student Services for several years, first in the ASC, and more recently working on IT and systems.
His work has touched every part of the service and has made all our lives a bit easier.

Alan Riddell, Deputy Director, Residential and Business Services will be retiring from the University on 31st May 2025.

Alan began his career with the University in November 2011 as Catering Manager and from that point forward he proved himself a valuable member of the RBS Team. He was promoted to Deputy Director in January 2016.

To celebrate and thank Alan for his years of service, dedication, and hard work, we invite you to contribute to a collection to mark the occasion.

There will be an opportunity to come along and wish Alan well on Friday 30th May 2025 from 12 noon – 2pm in Forbes Bar at ABH.

There will also be a reception in Sandys Bar at the Students’ Association from 4pm onwards.

Dan joined the University of St Andrews as a research assistant over 40 years ago in May 1985. He has subsequently held a variety of roles including Senior Technician, Senior Technical Specialist, and Research Fellow. Irrespective of title, he has always worked tirelessly to support research in the School of Biology. His laboratory and research skills have made him one of the ‘go to’ people in the building, who can be pretty much guaranteed to help out when all else fails.

Dan has worked closely with Professor Richard Randall, supporting his Interferon studies, an association which predates by several years his move to Scotland from the National Institute in London. His contributions to both Professor Randall’s laboratory, and also to the general life and scientific output of the School of Biology have been immense.

The time has now come for Dan to enjoy a very well earned retirement, spending more time with his wife Celia and their children and grandchildren. Dan’s last day in a labcoat will be 30 May as he leaves a fantastic legacy of assistance to countless students and of support to the School.

Please join us all in wishing Dan all the best for his retirement, and a massive thank you for everything he’s done for the School over the last four decades.

Grace is Retiring!

We are very sad to see her go but we would like to invite you to attend a small soiree in the Foyer at 4pm on her last day, Wednesday 28th May 2025, to wish her a long, healthy and happy Retirement.  There will be cake!

Jim Davila is retiring from his role as Professor of Early Jewish Studies after almost thirty years working at the university.
