Detailed Description

This collection of essays suggests new directions in the study of gender in the Andes. Participants come from different disciplines: history, anthropology, linguistics, archeology and pedagogy, not surprising that the majority are women. Trials are several topics: gender boundaries in the Andes, gender and language, gender and education, gender myths gender and property, gender conflicts with parental authority in the nineteenth century , gender and the Inca state, and gender and representation. As a common goal, they reject the fixed categories of previous studies, based on the theories of structuralism and semiotics, and pose as a more dynamic alternative and procedural models based on Andean gender.
